Our Farm & Nursery Mission ✌🏻♥️🪴

photos+pg+arbor (1).jpeg
  • To enable and encourage people to experience the peace and joy of gardening by providing a wide variety of healthy, reasonably priced plants that are garden-worthy and will do well in our climate. (USDA zone 7)

  • To encourage experimentation and exploration in the field of gardening by supplying a large diversity of plants and seeds.

  • To provide through our display gardens, experienced staff, signage, online and printed materials, and gardening consultations as much assistance, information, and inspiration as possible.

To encourage, both by example and education, ecologically responsible gardening practices such as:

    • Biological and cultural controls of insects, diseases, or weeds

    • Decreased water use with xeriscape planting

    • Soil improvement through composting, organic soil amendments, and mulch, ecologically balanced landscapes; increased biodiversity and preservation of native and heirloom plant varieties

    • By helping, however modestly, to increase the number of gardeners and land given over to garden plots, and the diversity within these plots, we hope to contribute to a healthier, happier, and more beautiful Long Island environment.

Our Nursery

We sell many different plants here at Peconic River Herb Farm throughout our nursery with eight greenhouses, large outdoor sales areas and a lot of displays filled with fragrant and delightful plants throughout.

In addition to herbs, we especially love L.I. natives, flowers for cutting, gourmet and heirloom vegetable varieties, unusual small trees and shrubs, creative container plants, hedges for hiding, and wonderfully textured ground covers, ferns, and grasses for lower maintenance yards.

Garden Worthy Plants

What are Garden Worthy plants?
They have outstanding attributes; either flowers, foliage, berries, bark, or fruits, a robust yet tidy appearance, and offer long periods of interest throughout the season. Tried and tested in our gardens and nursery over the past thirty seven years, these proven performers are for sale here as worthwhile additions to any L.I. garden or landscape.

Our plants work or we don't carry them.
It's as simple as that.

Annuals

Annuals are a great way to inexpensively get color in containers and garden areas in all seasons and fill in areas while you wait for trees, shrubs and perennials to mature. Be sure to ask us to show you some of our featured favorites.

Edimentals-Fruits & Vegetables

A delicious selection of gourmet and heirloom vegetable and fruit varieties, many of which are also quite beautiful in the garden and dotted throughout the yard.

Perennials

Our garden-worthy perennials perform and come back to fill out your beds, borders, and foundation plantings with style. Coordinating perennial heights, colors and bloom time (not to mention sun/shade requirements) can be quite daunting for a beginner. Please feel free to ask one of our experienced staff to help or book a garden consultation with Cris.

Need Help?

When you have questions, we’ll have answers or do our best to assist you. Please let us know what you need assistance with by stopping by the barn. We’ll be happy to help.

Please ask us if there is something you are searching for plants that are not on these lists.

We very often find great plants all throughout the season or start things from seeds that may not be listed here.

For more in-depth help when you need to know what to plant, where, how, and when to plant it? A private consultation might be just for you.

An hour or two of consultation can help prevent expensive mistakes, which often require even more expensive removal, pruning, or rearranging.

Consultations are free of charge based on a minimum plant purchase of $250.00 or more per one hour of consultation time, 1 hr. minimum.

If you do not purchase plants the same day as your consultation, you can also purchase a gift certificate to be used for future plant purchases.

Garden consultations can help you:

  • Prioritize and organize to develop a simple overall plan which can then be installed in phases if necessary

  • Select appropriate plants for various landscape situations and our suggestions for different garden situations.

Consultations are free of charge based on a minimum plant purchase of $250.00 or more per one hour of consultation time, 1 hr. minimum.

If you do not purchase plants the same day as your consultation, you can also purchase a gift certificate to be used for future plant purchases.

Consultations are available daily.

10 am - 12 pm or 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm
Please book your consultation.

*Before your visit to the nursery, please complete the form with questions. prepare, and bring a rough sketch or survey with measurements and dimensions of the area. Since this is a fairly short consult, it's best to focus on a specific area rather than the entire yard if it’s a large one. Please complete the form attached to your appointment booking. Note any existing large features (house, trees, driveway, pool, etc.), be aware if it is sunny or shady, and what types of soil conditions are there. It is also good to bring in some photos of the area showing views to and from the house and street.
